Jessie Buckley Goes Viral for Cat Rehoming Story, Worried She'd Be 'Canceled'
Jessie Buckley, who is widely considered the favorite to win the Best Actress Academy Award for her work in Hamnet, is going viral for a story she told in November of 2025.
While on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast last year, she told a story about when she first started dating her husband, Freddie Sorensen. Apparently, when they first got together, he had two cats.
She revealed this story could get her “canceled.”

“I don’t like cats,” Jessie said at one point in the conversation, with her co-star Paul Mescal agreeing.
“Cats are mean,” she added.
She shared, “My husband, when I started dating him, he had two cats. This is bad so I’m going to get canceled. But one of the cats was like, a pedigree model bitch. And she staged like a coup against me. I’d come home and there’d just be like, poo on the pillow. And I was like, ‘It’s me or the cats.’”
“I won,” she continued.
The interview went viral in the past few hours as many began debating about rehoming animals.
