Pittsburg man arrested in fatal shooting near Bethel Island
OAKLEY — A Pittsburg man suspected in the fatal shooting of a man earlier this week near Bethel Island has been arrested, authorities said.
Detectives from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office found 40-year-old Clayton Dortzbach at an undisclosed location in Concord on Wednesday about 4:45 p.m., according to a statement from sheriff’s office spokesperson Jimmy Lee.
Detectives arrested him there on suspicion of murder, Lee said. Authorities took him to the Martinez Detention Facility where he remained Thursday in lieu of $1 million bail, according to jail records.
The arrest came two days after authorities found 38-year-old Martinez resident Edward Garofalo IV down with a gunshot wound after responding to the 3200 block of Dutch Slough Road about 8:50 p.m.
The charges against Dortzbach by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office were expected to be filed by the end of the work week.
