Pedestrian hit and killed by driver in Hayward
HAYWARD – A driver hit and killed a pedestrian Tuesday night in Hayward, police said.
The incident happened around 9:20 p.m. in the 23000 block of Mission Boulevard, according to the Hayward Police Department.
The pedestrian, a 59-year-old woman, was taken to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, police said. The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau will release the woman’s identity after it is confirmed and her next of kin is notified.
The driver, a 27-year-old woman, stopped at the scene, police said, adding that “she was cooperative and provided a statement regarding the incident.”
The incident is under investigation, but police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.
The death marked the city’s third traffic fatality of the year. It also came just three days after another 59-year-old woman was hit and killed by a driver near West Tennyson Road and Baldwin Street. A 6-year-old boy also suffered severe facial fractures in the incident.
