Re: Rowett to Leicester
HughBlue2B47bluesMNaftiClark did ok in his first season, especially when you compare it to Zola/Redknapp/Cotterill/Karanka/Bowyer/Rooney
His 2nd season was largely an abomination but he definitely can point to key factors that were totally out of his control in his defence. For example, we lost Burn and Bartley in the January and never recovered.
I think Monk did something quite special, if it’s possible to overlook how it came to an end for him at Blues, he really “got” us and he galvanised the fans and the players in a way not many have done.
I remember the start of the 18/19 season being poor in terms of results, but performance wise it was the best we’d seen for a long time, we were battering teams but just couldn’t finish and there were never any murmurings of discontent. Eventually Adams hit form and we shot up the league. Of course, the points deduction and arguably more so, the lead up to that decision which loomed over the squad, totally derailed our season. Absolutely right that he was moved on, but he was a very good manager for us. I’m surprised it’s never worked out for him anywhere since.
Clark inherited a team that almost got promoted and lost 1 game at home all season within a few weeks Barnsley were beating us 5-0 at St Andrews
It is mental to evaluate Lee Clark without acknowledging the rigid financial restrictions during his tenure.
We had a Championship team where the top wage was £6k a week.
He certainly had some negatives but he pretty much did the impossible in keeping us up. If we’d gone down then god knows what would have come
of us today.
Team for his 2nd game, away at Hillsborough
Butland
Spector
Murphy
Curtis Davies
Caldwell
Redmond
Elliott
Mullins
Ambrose
King
Hughton team, with the exception of Mullins and Ambrose. 5 of the 7 subs were from Hughtons team too
I will accept no revisionism of the shambolic Clark era
Right. Now do the team that ended the season and see how many were still around. Oh and put the team up that started the following season and compare that to those in the Hughton team.
