Karoline Leavitt downplays fury over Trump's racist Obama meme as 'fake outrage'
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt blasted reporters after President Donald Trump posted a video of Barack and Michelle Obama depicted as apes.
In the short video, someone discusses the 2020 presidential election before the Obamas' heads are seen on the bodies of apes.
"This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from the Lion King," Leavitt told multiple news outlets. "Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public."
In a post on X, California Gov. Gavin Newsom denounced Trump's meme.
"Disgusting behavior by the President. Every single Republican must denounce this. Now," he wrote.
