Defence Minister Kaupa impressed with Gada Farm operations
Minister of Defence, Dr. Feston Kaupa, has expressed satisfaction with the agricultural operations being undertaken at the Malawi National Service (MNS)-owned Gada Farm in Mchinji District.
The Minister visited the farm on Thursday as part of his ongoing familiarization tours to various Malawi Defence Force (MDF) units and establishments.
Speaking after touring the facility, Dr. Kaupa said he was impressed with the level of commitment demonstrated by the MNS in advancing farming activities at the farm.
He noted that with full support and commercialization, the MNS has the potential to significantly improve the economic status of the entire MDF, while also contributing to the country’s food security.
In his remarks, MNS Commander, Major General Elvis Mwase, pledged that the MNS remains committed to supporting government efforts in combating hunger, as well as creating employment opportunities for Malawians.
Gada Farm covers 1,654 hectares of land and hosts a variety of agricultural enterprises, including maize production, cattle and goat rearing, as well as bee farming, among others.
The Malawi National Service is a development-oriented arm of the MDF. Apart from its strong focus on agricultural production, the MNS also has interests in other key sectors such as engineering, mining, and various income-generating ventures aimed at supporting national development.
