Mia Brookes Wins Slopestyle Gold at X Games
Mia Brookes was sitting in first place with a score of 93 when she dropped in for her second slopestyle run at the X Games in Aspen, Colorado. Announcers Brandon Graham and Hailey Langland debated whether she would take it easy on her next run or step it up a notch.
Brookes proceeded to step it up a notch.
She put down the run that would eventually land her atop the podium. That run included a cab 270 onto a rail, a front 360, a backside 1280, and a cab 1440. All of it was executed with that sleepy style that Brookes has become known for.
“I didn’t really go in expecting to do that run,” Brookes said after the contest was over. “I really struggled the last few days.”
Her struggles ended there. That run elevated her score from a 93 to a 96.33. She would hold on to that top spot for the rest of the contest.
And how did the 19-year-old plan to celebrate?
“I like to go to bed early and watch the movie,” she said in her interview, while donning a denim jacket and hat adorned with patches from Black Sabbath and Pantera. “I’m not really much of a partier.”
Kokomo Murase finished in second place, while donning an open leather jacket. Tess Coady finished in third.
