Alva Industries launches platform for electric motor design and analysis
Alva Industries, a manufacturer of frameless motors and creator of FiberPrinting technology, is launching TorqStudio, a new software platform that allows engineers to design, optimise, and analyse electric motors before committing to prototypes or hardware
TorqStudio can support early-stage motor development by enabling users to move from high-level size requirements to fully manufacturable motor designs within minutes, and to validate performance at defined operating points utilising analytical models designed by Alva.
Anton Franzén, director of product management at Alva, said, “The platform removes much of the uncertainty typically associated with early motor designs and gives users immediate insights into what is technically possible.”
Users of TorqStudio can define basic motor constraints such as outer diameter and axial length. Based on these inputs, the platform automatically generates thousands of candidate motor designs and filters them to present the most efficient solutions.
Each design is evaluated using key performance metrics, enabling engineers to visualise trade-offs and select optimal designs for their application. All presented designs represent complete motor concepts that can be manufactured.
Selected designs can be saved to a personal design database, exported as datasheets, and used in further analysis. Users can also submit a quotation request if they choose to proceed with development or procurement.
TorqStudio also provides detailed motor analysis capabilities, allowing users to define operating conditions such as supply voltage, ambient temperature, cooling conditions, torque, speed, and switching frequency, before evaluating how a motor performs at specific operating points.
The results are visualised on speed-torque maps and supported by output data, including:
- DC and AC current
- Current waveforms
- Mechanical and electrical power
- Efficiency and losses
- Stator and motor temperatures
TorqStudio can support analysis of user-created custom motor designs and Alva’s standard motor portfolio, allowing direct comparison within a single environment.
Every design and analysis is stored in a design database, providing a complete overview of available motors, simplifying evaluation, comparison, and decision-making.
Combining rapid motor design generation with detailed operating-point analysis allows engineers to:
- Accelerate development cycles
- Explore motor design trade-offs efficiently
- Reduce reliance on physical prototyping
- Validate performance and thermal margins early
