Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman Follows In Joonas Korpisalo’s Footsteps In Shutout Win
Boston Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman followed in Joonas Korpisalo’s footsteps by recording a shutout on Tuesday.
The Bruins were coming off a 1-0 shutout win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, with Korpisalo in the net. On Tuesday, it was Swayman in the net, and he led the Bruins to a 3-0 shutout win over the Detroit Red Wings.
“Korpi got it done (last game),” Swayman said on Tuesday, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “He’s just the best. We got the monkey off our back, and I’ve got to keep up with him.
“That’s awesome that we have that high competitiveness. And again, shutouts aren’t done without the boys in front of us, so huge credit goes to them for getting the job done tonight.”
With the shutout win over the Red Wings, Boston extended its win streak to four games and remains firmly in the playoff picture.
Meanwhile, Bruins head coach Marco Sturm was also impressed with the team’s effort on Tuesday and called it their most complete game.
“I think it was one of the most complete games we’ve played all year long, 5-on-5,” Sturm said postgame. “Those are the games we have to take advantage of a little bit. I think guys were just ready to go today, right from the start.”
With the win, Boston is now 26-19-2 and holding onto the top wild card spot. The Bruins will return to the ice on Thursday against the Seattle Kraken.
