Can Souza and Conor Gallagher be added to Tottenham’s Champions League squad?
Alasdair Gold has revealed whether Souza and Conor Gallagher can be instantly added to Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League squad.
Spurs appear to have stolen the Gallagher deal from under Aston Villa’s nose just days after securing the signing of Brazilian left-back Souza.
While not all Tottenham fans are convinced that these are impressive deals, it does give Thomas Frank a couple of more bodies at a time when the club is ravaged by injuries.
However, there are complications to consider regarding their availability for the Champions League.
Conor Gallagher and Souza will have to wait to feature for Tottenham in the Champions League
Spurs resume their Champions League campaign with a clash against Borussia Dortmund next Tuesday night (January 20) before travelling to Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, January 28, for their final league phase fixture.
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that neither of the two new signings can feature in those fixtures as the squad is fixed for the league phase.
However, should Spurs qualify for the knockout stage of the competition, changes can be made to the squad, with UEFA allowing teams to make three changes to their list.
The final squad for the knockout stage of the Champions League needs to be submitted by 11 pm on February 5.
Will Spurs face any other complications in their Champions League squad?
Tottenham fans need not worry about Gallagher being cup-tied, with UEFA’s rules allowing players to represent two different clubs in the Champions League in the same season.
However, the worry for Spurs is that as things stand, their squad is six over the limit allowed by UEFA.
That means that unless there are several exits, a few players have to be left out once again, with Thomas Frank potentially facing some difficult decisions.
