Milan sound out Liverpool for Joe Gomez as January defensive options assessed
Milan are continuing their search for a defensive reinforcement ahead of the January transfer deadline, with Joe Gomez emerging as a potential option.
According to CalcioMercato, sporting director Igli Tare has renewed contacts with Liverpool after difficulties in negotiations for other targets, including Fenerbahce’s Milan Skriniar and Juventus defender Federico Gatti.
Gomez is appreciated for his experience, versatility and physical profile, and is considered suitable to strengthen Massimiliano Allegri’s defensive rotation.
At present, however, Liverpool have not opened concretely to a sale. Milan are monitoring the situation and hope the player himself could help facilitate a move, but signals from England remain limited.
Not just Gomez, Milan monitor Disasi & Murillo
Another name under evaluation is Axel Disasi. The French centre-back is currently out of Chelsea’s first-team plans and has been proposed to several clubs, including Milan. Roma are also interested and would consider a permanent deal. Milan view Disasi as a market opportunity at a reduced cost, though he is not considered a priority target.
Murillo of Nottingham Forest has also been discussed internally. The Brazilian defender is admired by Tare, but Forest’s financial position makes a January deal difficult unless a significant offer is made.
Milan continue to explore multiple defensive solutions as they look to add depth rather than make a major investment this winter.
