49ers overcome brutal start to lead Bears 28-21 at halftime as Caleb Williams, Brock Purdy trade TDs
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — At the end of a wild first half Sunday at Levi’s Stadium, the Bears trail the 49ers 28-21
The Bears opened the game with linebacker T.J. Edwards’ 34-yard interception return for a touchdown off a Brock Purdy pass that was broken up by Jaylon Johnson, but quickly fell behind 14-7 as Purdy bounced back with a pair of touchdown drives.
The teams traded touchdowns for a while after that.
Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has completed 6 of 12 passes for 108 yards with long touchdown passes to rookies Luther Burden and Colston Loveland. He has a 120.8 passer rating.
Purdy rallied from the early interception to push his passer rating to 90.4 on 14-of-20 passing for 164 yards and a touchdown pass to former Bears tight end Jake Tonges. He also ran for a 10-yard touchdown and three-yard touchdown.
The Bears will get the ball to begin the second half.
