I’m a student teacher – I showed off a week of outfits but people say I should get sent home
A YOUNG professional thought she’d save time by planning her week of work outfits ahead of time.
But the savvy student teacher got a wake-up call when she shared the clothes online and her followers challenged her boundary-pushing picks.

Casey Hodnett, 24, is looking forward to becoming a full-time teacher and shares updates on her student teaching journey on TikTok.
She shared some of her fall classroom outfits in a video on the platform, and they were not the chunky sweaters and frumpy skirts of yesteryear.
Faux leather played a big part in Hodnett’s wardrobe.
One outfit’s focal point was a brown faux-leather wrap dress, and she also styled a black, slitted skirt in the same material.

Another ensemble was all shiny white satin. Even Hodnett’s “casual” looks paired fitted shirts with high-waisted trousers.
Though the looks were certainly stylish, viewers were skeptical of the teacher-in-training’s choices.
“Of all the schools I’ve worked in, I would be pulled up on every outfit here,” one warned her.
A second teacher echoed them and said the punishment would be more severe at their school. “You would get sent home,” they warned.

“Leather skirt will be a no-no,” a third teacher agreed.
“It’s leather. I’m not sure why that would be considered inappropriate,” Hodnett responded.
“You’re working with children, not in a bondage store,” replied the commenter Hodnett challenged.
Even if no one at her school said anything about the outfit, the commenter added, Hodnett would be wise to leave the potentially-suggestive skirt at home.

“You want to protect yourself as a teacher, not have any possible accusations,” they explained.
“I think the slit may be too high for the leather skirt,” a different viewer said.
One viewer reiterated the idea but cushioned the blow. “You look beautiful but save the leather for another occasion,” they said.
Some people thought Hodnett’s outfits were so out-of-place, she had to be playing a prank.
“Not sure if these videos are a joke,” they said. “Are you trolling us?”
Meanwhile, other educators were concerned about the young woman’s wardrobe for another reason.

“As a teacher of many years, I warn you not to wear expensive clothes because they’ll all get ruined,” a wise commenter said.
But Hodnett reassured her commenters she’d be working with older students in a high school setting, not young kids.
In a comment, she acknowledged that she would likely be judged no matter what clothes she chose to wear.
“There’s no winning, honestly,” Hodnett wrote. “Might as well dress in what makes you feel good.”
