BARRE, Vt. (AP) — Investigators say two fires in recent days in the city of Barre, Vermont, were intentionally set. WCAX-TV reports that one fire burned a vacant building on North Main Street on Tuesday, the day after a fire at a different property, also owned by Allen Lumber, was also set. Federal prosecutors in New York have launched a sex crime investigation against Harvey Weinstein, according to The Wall Street Journal. The investigation, which was announced by the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York, is investigating to see if any of the accused sexual assaults committed by the disgraced movie producer involved him persuading women to “travel across state lines.” If evidence is found of this, Weinstein could face federal criminal charges. U.S. stocks closed modestly higher on Wednesday, after commentary from the Federal Reserve suggested the U.S. central bank was maintaining a calm attitude toward inflation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.2% to 24,884. The S&P 500 added 0.3% to 2,733. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.6% to 7,426. Minutes from the Federal Reserve's May 2 meeting confirmed that policy makers supported a June rate increase, but that they wouldn't be too aggressive with raising interest rates, suggesting the inflation outlook wasn't severe.
