[Volleyball] Volleyball attempts comeback, falls to Point
MONTREAT, N.C. – Volleyball attempted a late comeback Saturday morning after being down 0-2, but ultimately fell 3-1 in the match (18-25, 17-25, 25-20, 12-25) to the Point University Skyhawks, who have now won eight consecutive matches. The Cavs currently sit at 6-11 (2-3 AAC) for the year.
Point controlled the first set as the Cavs never gained a lead and the Skyhawks never led by less than three. In the second set, Montreat jumped out with the lead, but quickly fell to a 13-point deficit. After being down 19-6, the Cavs made a run to cut their deficit to 15-20 before dropping that set. "Once we minimized our errors, we were able to push back there in the second set," said head coach Kristy Kamer.
The third set was a close battle until the Cavs took a six-point lead, winning the set and staying alive for a fourth. "It was pretty exciting to see them really pull together as a team, and I'm very proud of them for coming back to win the third set," said Coach Kamer. The Cavs once again came out with the first point in the fourth set, but could not hold out, dropping the set and the match.
"We didn't minimize our errors in the fourth set, and that's kind of what got the best of us today. I think once it all truly starts to click, we'll be okay," said Coach Kamer.
Taylor Carrillo led the Cavs with 10 kills as Juliana Hummert was close behind with nine. China Brown-Woolfolk and Taylor Coe both contributed seven kills each. Abby Graham posted a team-high 21 assists while also contributing seven digs. Bella Huerta followed with 14 assists and seven digs as well. Vivica Nogueira led the team defensively with 17 digs.
Up Next: The Cavs are preparing to spend the whole next week on the road visiting three conference opponents. Their game week begins Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Tennessee Wesleyan with a match beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.
