Sandro Wagner moves to Bayern Munich

Wagner lives in the Bavarian capital with his wife and two children and in the coming months, another addition to the family is expected. “The situation was ideal for me,” said the striker, who was born in Munich. “Bayern’s interest in me was an honour, but I did have to think about it,” he admitted. “I know exactly what I have to thank TSG Hoffenheim, the people here at the club, the fans and my teammates for. I became a Germany international here, the fans always supported me and accepted me for how I am. I was able to experience my most successful time in my career so far here,” noted the 30 year old. On the other hand, “I want to seize this great opportunity and I’m very thankful to TSG for agreeing to let me transfer to the team I played for as a youngster and with that, return to my beloved home city. It’s a dream come true.”
“In Sandro, we’re losing real competitor, who played consistently almost every weekend and became a Germany international like that,” said Hoffenheim head coach Julian Nagelsmann. “Sandro is a special player in every aspect. His style both on and off the pitch is provocative – some people love it and some don’t. His move is certainly also the chance for other players to take on responsibility and to prove themselves again.”
Wagner arrived at TSG Hoffenheim in July 2016 from SV Darmstadt 98. Since then, he scored 15 goals in 42 appearances for TSG. He also netted one goal in the DFB Cup (three appearances) and twice in European competitions (four appearances in CL qualifiers/Europa League). He made his Germany debut on July 6th 2017. Since that date, he has scored five times in seven appearances for the DFB Team, while also becoming a Confederations Cup champion.
