A new poll says President Donald Trump and GOP leaders in Congress are hurting the Republican party’s chances in the upcoming 2018 midterm elections.
According to the newest Politico/Morning Consult poll of almost 2,000 registered voters, Democrats have a 10 percentage point lead over Republicans for the midterms, which are still 10 months away. This is the party’s largest lead of the year.
44 percent are more likely to vote Democratic while 34 percent say they would vote Republican.
38 percent of those polled said they would be less likely to support a candidate who had been endorsed by Trump, while only 32 percent said they would be more likely to vote for that candidate. Respondents also said they were less likely to support candidates backed by Speaker Paul Ryan or Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
