When that issue came up to me, I did exactly what you suggested. But I am not sure of my decision.
"My understanding would be that 33-7 can never be used for failling to hole out" ,so the player should have been disqualified from the playoff. Consequently, the winner of the parking spot should have been awarded by a coin toss?
Any other arguments
Edward ,
Your comment highlighted above is entirely correct but this principle is really aimed at not having a score for a stipulated round(18holes) .
I think that you know from your previous posts that the rules authorities have already bent the rules in stroke play play offs by allowing the positions to be decided by the order in which people pick up / concede defeat and the winner does not in all cases actually hole out.( dec33-6/3)
if the Committee would have decided to us a toss of the coin / putting contest , etc etc to decide the winner , then that method would have been equally acceptable but were the Committee partly at fault for the original errors?
In our current climate of rules modification , particularly where the rules bodies are under constant criticism , I am sure that the all of the other competitors / Interested parties, etc would prefer that the winner is ultimately decided on ability rather than pot luck.
i am sure that this is what the players themselves would prefer.
Partcipants in our sport continually take issue with the rules and complain when common sense is not applied.
You have not stated what the role of the Committee was in this scenario and whether any blame can be attached to them.?
Remember that the Committee's decision is final and I believe that you acted in the most sensible way at the time.
