Workers' salaries still unpaid, while Okorocha erects statues - archbishop cries out
- The archbishop of Enugu Ecclessiastical Province calls on the president to caution Governor Rochas Okorocha
- The archbishop urges other governors to make the payment of workers' salaries a priority
- He makes a plea to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to help redirect Okorocha's leadership pattern
Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, the archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Anglican Communion, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call the Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, to order.
The Guardian reported that, speaking in Enugu yesterday, Wednesday, December 20, the cleric also asked the All Progressives Congress (APC), for a positive overhauling of Okorocha’s administration.
Emmanuel Chukwuma noted that it was lamentable to see the governor preoccupied with trivial engagements, while workers salaries remain unpaid and so many in the state are living in penury.
He said: “I want to say that the condition of civil servants and pensioners in Imo is very pathetic. And to make matters worse, Okorocha instead of doing the needful, is busy erecting statues and partying with taxpayers’ money.
“I’m urging President Buhari and his party, the APC to call him to order.”

The cleric slammed Okorocha, saying that by establishing the 'Ministry of Happiness', he mocks true governance. “President Buhari should not keep silent over this; he should tell Okorocha to stop molding statues and use that money to pay workers and pensioners,” the archbishop stated.
He called on other governors to make the salaries workers a priority. He also urged politicians to demonstrate civility in the forthcoming 2019 presidential election.
However, the governor had approved the payment of November and December salaries of workers. The approval was issued in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Professor Nnamdi Obiareri.
