Tim Elliott vs. Mark De La Rosa set for UFC 219
Flyweight contender Tim Elliott will indeed get one more fight before 2017 ends.
Former flyweight title challenger Tim Elliott will move up to bantamweight for a fight against newcomer Mark De La Rosa at UFC 219 in Las Vegas, Nevada. MMA Fighting confirmed the news on Tuesday.
Elliott (14-8-1) was scheduled to fight newcomer Pietro Menga at last week’s UFC on FOX 26, but Menga didn’t even weigh-in, Elliott did not accept the fight at a 131-pound catchweight, Menga was hospitalized anyway, and the bout was cancelled. The UFC did pay Elliott his base salary after he made weight. Elliott is looking to bounce back from a stunningly quick 49-second submission loss to Ben Nguyen at UFC Auckland back in June.
The 23-year-old De La Rosa (9-0) is the husband of current UFC women’s flyweight Montana De La Rosa. Mark is an undefeated prospect with six of his nine wins coming by stoppage. His two fights this year have come under the Combate Americas banner, prevailing by submission each time out. He also holds a win over former UFC fighter Joseph Sandoval, submitting him back in 2015.
UFC 219 takes place on December 30th at the T-Mobile Arena, with Cris Cyborg defending her women’s featherweight title against Holly Holm in the main event.
