The wait is almost over for San Francisco Giants fans: After a long offseason and more than a week of spring training buildup, the team will finally see real action on Saturday when they play the Los Angeles Dodgers in their first Cactus League game.
Friday, however, the team continued its practice regiment. Position players worked on their baserunning, fielding drills and several stepped into the batter’s box towards the latter part of practice. Pitcher Jeff Samardzija was on the mound at practice and throwing live pitches to batters Brandon Crawford and Mike Yastrzemski.
There was also a surprise visitor at spring training. Former manager Bruce Bochy stopped by to watch the team play. He spoke to several members of the team and also spoke with president Farhan Zaidi.
The team hopes to make its spring training debut Saturday at 1:05 p.m versus the rival Dodgers at Scottsdale Stadium but with rain in the forecast, the teams might have to wait until nightfall or Sunday’s game against the Athletics to see its first action.
