Charr-Bryan apparently still a thing, headed to March 2nd purse bid
The pair have been in negotiations for nearly a year
Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury II, Andy Ruiz Jr.-Luis Ortiz, and Dillian Whyte-Alexander Povetkin? Boring. Real heavyweight fans are still clamoring for WBA regular champ Mahmoud Charr vs. interim champion Trevor Bryan, and Don King and co. have heard your demands. Nine months after the pair supposedly came to terms, they’re headed to a purse bid on March 2nd, minimum bid $1,000,000.
Both men acquired their titles in appropriately stupid fashion, as befits the WBA. Charr (31-4, 17 KO), whom you may remember from the time he got knocked the hell out by Alexander Povetkin or the time he got knocked the hell out by Mairis Briedis, took a decision over Alexander Ustinov in what the sanctioning body decided should be a title fight. Bryan (20-0, 14 KO), riding high off of wins over Sandy Antonio Soto (2-20) and Francois Russell (2-24), got the interim belt by stopping blown-up cruiserweight BJ Flores.
Neither has fought since. Charr for 27 months. Bryan for 18. You can probably thank Bryan’s promoter, Don King. At least these two are stuck wasting each other’s time as opposed to anyone else’s.
