Racing Report Card: A short-priced good thing at Donny, a dead-heat at Salisbury and one for the tracker for Andrew Balding
SUNDAY was pretty quiet on the old racing front but there was still some nice action to get stuck into around the country.
We’ve picked out some snippets you may have missed.
The jolliest of Jollies
She might not be up to Sea Of Class’ standard but Sea Of Faith (3.20 Doncaster) is certainly worth following.
Yes, the maiden she bolted up in this afternoon was pretty poor but she was in a different league and has the pedigree to pounce at a very high level later in the season.
William Haggas was complimentary about his 1-10 shot afterwards and intimated she might well be pattern-class.
Another day, another dead-heat
Saturday’s feature handicap gave us the closest of finishes and we had another one at Salisbury, as Snazzy Jazzy and Archer’s Dream nosedived together at the end of the Listed Cathedral Stakes.
James Fanshawe’s sprinter looked for all the world as though he had the race in safe keeping a furlong out, but the petrol light came on in the last few yards and he was joined by Clive Cox’s sprinter on the line.
Both are promising but Archer’s Dream is yet to be beaten in three starts and could well be the best of the pair in time.
One for the tracker
Keep an eye on Tribal Craft, who bolted up on her second start in the Novice Stakes at Salisbury for Andrew Balding.
She was smashed into favouritism so was clearly thought to have benefited from her debut effort at Sandown and duly did the business, bolting up by three lengths.
A step up to a mile and a half would surprise and she’s worth following at this level.
