The Italian chief, 60, opted to swap the England star with Ross Barkley as the Blues chased a late goal in the Europa League semi-final.
With the score at 1-1 – level at two-apiece on aggregate and heading for extra-time – Loftus-Cheek was subbed with four minutes of the 90 to go.
Stamford Bridge erupted into a chorus of boss, with Twitter users also venting their frustration as Sarri made the like-for-like swap at such a crucial juncture.
Many claimed Mateo Kovacic should have made way instead, while some supporters simply said: “Sarri out.”
One fan wrote: “Loftus-Cheek is replaced by Barkley to a chorus off boos, even Loftus-Cheek shakes his head.
“DIGGING HIS OWN GRAVE”
“I’m a big Sarri fan but it should’ve been Kovacic.”
Another said: “Stamford Bridge boos Sarri for this decision. RLC out and Kovacic stays?”
A third added: “Sarri getting boo’d again”, complete with laughing emojis.
One fan even claimed, Sarri is “digging his own grave”.
