A female student last week accused the school via Twitter of not doing enough to punish her alleged attacker. He was found responsible for misconduct in a Title IX ruling and suspended for one semester. The victim says that man has since rejoined the university's swim team. (AP) — The Montana Supreme Court says a University of Montana campus police officer was wrong to continue to detain and question a student suspected of underage drinking without advising her of her right against self-incrimination. (AP) — Dartmouth College's president says one of three psychology professor facing sexual misconduct allegations has chosen to retire following an investigation and recommendation that the school fire him. President Phil Hanlon announced Professor Todd Heatherton's retirement in a letter to the Dartmouth community Thursday. Heatherton has been on sabbatical. He and two other professors were accused last year of creating a "hostile academic environment" marked by excessive drinking, favoritism and, at times, inappropriate behavior.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Heavy rain has washed over much of Story and eastern Boone County, prompting flash flood warnings. The National Weather Service issued a warning Thursday morning after more than 4 inches (10 centimeters) of rain had fallen and 2 more inches (5 centimeters) had been forecast. JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — A southwest Missouri man who met a 13-year-old girl through the anonymous chat app Whisper has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for statutory rape. The Joplin Globe reports that 26-year-old Timothy Bailey Jr., of Joplin, admitted Wednesday to the crime under a plea in which other child sex charges were dropped. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas consumer advocates are recommending state utility regulators reject Westar Energy's request for a $17.2 million rate increase and instead order the company to cut rates. The Lawrence Journal-World reports employees of the Kansas Corporation Commission and the Citizens Utility Ratepayer Board recommended this week that the commission cut Westar rates for customers by at least $69 million.
