An elderly man suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday after a car hit him in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood, police said. DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Fire Department is the proud new owner of more than 800 pet oxygen masks. The announcement was made Thursday by Patti Kukula (kuh-KOO'-luh), who heads up the Detroit Public Safety Foundation, which facilitates donations from the community on behalf of the city's police and fire departments. GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Police have charged three adults with drug trafficking and child abuse after finding five children and two pounds of cocaine during a drug raid in North Carolina. BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A proposal seeking to codify existing case law surrounding protections for a person who uses deadly force under a serious threat of harm is on its way to the Idaho House. The House State Affairs Committee agreed on Thursday to send SB 1313 to the full House for debate with just three members opposing. The bill has already passed the Senate. If approved, the bill would expand the definition of justifiable homicide to include defending one's place of employment or an occupied vehicle and not just while defending one's home. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Missouri Senate has voted to increase the age for automatically trying suspects as adults from 17 to 18. The bill was unanimously approved Thursday. VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a northwestern Indiana man stole two dogs from a home and fatally beat them in a rural area. Twenty-three-year-old Anthony Priestas of Hammond was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of killing a domestic animal. He remained Thursday at the Porter County Jail. (AP) — Concerns over aquatic invasive species have led Yellowstone National Park officials to ban the use of felt sole boots or waders and to set a boating season during which watercraft inspections will be available. MIAMI (AP) — A bird strike forced a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter to make an emergency landing in Miami on Thursday. A Coast Guard statement said the bird hit the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter as it was on a routine flight near the southern side of Key Biscayne. The agency said two pilots, a flight mechanic and a rescue swimmer were on board. No one was injured. A damage assessment is being conducted to determine whether the helicopter can safely fly.

LAWRENCE, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a man who walked into a suburban Indianapolis tax preparation shop with a gun in each hand was fatally shot by a worker at the office. Police in Lawrence say 25-year-old Antonio Bertram of Indianapolis said "What's up?" before he was shot around midday Tuesday at the Colbert/Ball Tax Service office.
