SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Human remains discovered in an abandoned Shreveport house almost two months ago have been identified as those of a man reported missing by his family in February. The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office said Saturday the remains, found June 25, belong to 33-year-old David Brett Becton, of Bossier City. (AP) — Officials say a western Washington state police officer opened fire after the driver of a stolen vehicle rammed the officer's cruiser, and police later arrested a male with a possible gunshot wound to the arm. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana University has apologized to defensive back Bryant Fitzgerald for a mistake that will cost the freshman his first year of eligibility. In a statement issued Saturday, athletic director Fred Glass acknowledged the school's compliance office failed to properly advise Fitzgerald of his eligibility requirements. A blaze in Yosemite National Park has caused residents of the small community of Wawona to be forced to evacuate Saturday, officials said. The South Fork Fire, which began last Sunday east of the town, has burned 2,903 acres, according to federal fire officials. The fire picked up overnight due to windy conditions and has caused officials to order residents and visitors in Wawona to leave. The cause of the fire is under investigation. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say a commuter bus headed to Chicago was delayed in Madison earlier this week after a 21-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the groin. WKOW-TV reports that the incident happened around about 5 a.m. Wednesday. Police say the man had the gun in his waistband when it went off. LOLO, Mont. (AP) — National Guard troops are now helping out at a rapidly growing wildfire in western Montana. The 155 soldiers who arrived Saturday will monitor 35 security checkpoints south of Missoula where an evacuation order is in place. The troops will relieve law enforcement officers, freeing them up so they can return to other duties. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A Wichita man has been sentenced to probation for a hit-and-run that killed a U.S. Marine. The Sedgwick County district attorney's office says 27-year-old Dreu Wikle was sentenced Friday to two years of probation. He would serve three years in prison if he violates probation. KAKE-TV reports Wikle pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident. EPPING, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire woman who became stuck in a swimming pool after the ladder broke turned to Facebook to ask for help getting out. Sixty-one-year-old Leslie Kahn was swimming in her pool Aug. 11 when the ladder broke, leaving her stranded. She said she didn't have the strength to pull herself. No one else was home and her cellphone was inside. She used a pool pole to drag the chair her iPad was on and posted in a community Facebook page, asking for help.
