A state police spokesman says the agency was assisting in the investigation.

(AP) — Democratic lawmakers have introduced a bill that would impose new regulations on deer farms in hopes of slowing chronic wasting disease. Dana Wachs and Nick Milroy, all deer farms would have to install electronic monitoring systems indicating when gates are open; non-whitetail deer farms would have to be fenced; fences would have to be inspected every two years; and all deer farms with CWD would have to double-fence or install electric fencing.

The state Department of Health said Tuesday the product distributed by Tropic Fish Hawaii LLC and imported from Indonesia was used to prepare poke sold between April 27 and May 1 at several Oahu locations. BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Police in Connecticut are investigating a shooting that left a man dead. Officials say the shooting happened in Bridgeport around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the man was found dead at the scene. Authorities have not identified the victim. No arrests have been made. An investigation is ongoing.

The security spokesman for Tamaulipas state said Wednesday that a string of shootings and road blockades broke out around midnight and lasted into the pre-dawn hours. The spokesman's office said in a statement that gunmen in several vehicles opened fire on military patrols.

Small businesses added 61,000 jobs in April, down nearly half from the revised 117,000 in March and 91,000 in February, according to payroll provider ADP. The drop indicates that business owners, while increasingly confident since the election, are holding on to their cautious approach to expanding their companies. The company's overall customers, which range from the tiniest companies to major corporations, added 177,000 jobs, down from 255,000 in March but still a strong figure.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah lawmakers want to investigate financial ties between the University of Utah and the Huntsman Cancer Institute after a dispute between leaders at the institutions led to resignations of the university's president and top health care official. Helena voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a $63 million bond to replace three elementary schools. In East Helena, two-thirds of voters approved a $12 million bond for a new elementary school and to expand the middle school to address an increasing number of students.

(AP) — Michigan teachers and other school employees can quit a union at any time, not just one month a year, the state appeals court said. The court, however, said "restricting the opportunity to resign from a union to one month out of the year effectively forces continued affiliation for however long it happens to take in a given situation until that time of year arrives."

(AP) — Hutchinson Community College officials changed course and decided to allow the final edition of this semester's student newspaper to be published. Earlier this week, the college cancelled journalism classes for the rest of the school year, suspended the paper's faculty adviser and said the final edition wouldn't to be published.
