(AP) — The Connecticut Department of Correction is investigating the death of an inmate at the Enfield Correctional Institution. An exact cause of death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner's Office.

(AP) — Air quality regulators have voted to lower an emissions cap to try to clean up smoggy Southern California but the cut will be smaller than initially proposed. The Los Angeles Times reports Saturday (http://lat.ms/1jFNLq3 ) that the South Coast Air Quality Management District board voted to reduce the cap on emissions from facilities including refineries and factories from 26.5 tons of nitrogen oxides a day to 14.5 tons by 2022.

LONDON (AP) — Britain's defense secretary says U.K. fighter jets have targeted a Syrian oilfield during a second combat operation against the Islamic State group. Late Friday's operation, which aimed to cut off the militants' oil revenues, followed a similar strike the day before.

Police spokesman Trent Crump says an officer patrolling the area around McDowell Road and 51st Avenue heard shots fired at about 5 a.m. Saturday. The male resident sees they got into an altercation and he fired shots at the female suspect, striking her at least once.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — U.S. Census figures show Maine's teen birth rate dropped by nearly half what it were a decade ago, and the state now ranks with New Hampshire and Vermont among the 10 states with the lowest teen birth rates in the country. While the teen birth rate continued its steady decline in Maine, the survey shows unmarried Maine women accounted for 37.2 percent of all births, up from 30.8 percent in 2005.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Nueces County has canceled jury trials scheduled for next week after a problem of unknown origin caused no jury summons letters to yet be sent out for the month of December. The Corpus Christi Caller Times reports (http://bit.ly/1OMJJqZ ) that officials knew something was wrong when no one showed recently to get excused from jury duty.

SYOSSET, N.Y. (AP) — A New York man who police say posed as a federal agent after being pulled over with an assault weapon and body armor in his car has been ordered held on $300,000 bail. Police say he had a pistol, a knife and the assault weapon in the car, along with the body armor and 500 rounds of ammunition.
