U of Illinois grad student strike continues for fourth day
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — University of Illinois graduate students are striking for a fourth day after 11 months of unsuccessful talks with administrators on a new contract.
The school's Graduate Employees Organization went on strike Monday. The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports Thursday that school officials say 139 graduate employees are striking and that of 2,870 classes scheduled Wednesday about 30 were moved and 56 were canceled.
School spokeswoman Robin Kaler says the union "still hasn't responded to our request to join us at the bargaining table." Graduate Employees Organization co-president Gus Wood said "not yet" when asked if the union had heard from school officials.
