The average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.40 per share. The online retailer posted revenue of $37.96 billion in the period, topping Street forecasts. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $1,047.84, a climb of 42 percent in the last 12 months.

Big Seattle culture, arts and science organizations are giving big to King County Prop. 1, the $469 million levy on the Aug. 1 ballot.  The measure would do good -- providing cultural access for kids and low-income residents -- but the arts organizations stand to do very, very well.

Judge Nicholas Francis made the hospice order after Charlie's parents and the hospital treating him failed to meet a deadline to agree on an end-of-life care plan that could have seen the baby kept alive for several more days. NEW YORK (AP) — Ford Motor Co. is bringing its crowd-sourced shuttle service Chariot to New York City in August, marking its biggest expansion since being purchased less than a year ago. If there is enough demand, Chariot will start dispatching shuttles to that area.

A Utah man is federally charged with murder after his wife was found dead and bloodied on a cruise ship en route to Alaska from Seattle.

In a claim filed with the city on Tuesday, lawyers for Delvonn Heckard asked for $1-3 million after they say Murray "falsely and defamatorily accused Mr. Heckard, a gay man, of participating in an anti-gay right wing conspiracy along with other victims."

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stock indexes pulled back from their record highs Thursday after drops for technology, health care and industrial stocks offset another big gain for telecoms. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 9 points, or less than 0.1 percent, to 21,701, and the Nasdaq composite fell 85 points, or 1.3 percent, to 6,337. Companies' stocks are getting less of a boost than usual after reporting earnings that beat analysts' forecasts, said Nate Thooft, senior portfolio manager at Manulife Asset Management. WASHINGTON (AP) — Long-term U.S. mortgage rates fell this week for the second week in a row, despite the Federal Reserve's efforts to lift borrowing costs. Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac says the rate on 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages slid to 3.92 percent from 3.96 percent the previous week. The rate on 15-year, fixed-rate home loans, popular with homeowners who are refinancing their mortgages, eased to 3.2 percent from 3.23 percent last week.

(AP) — Thanks to the kindness of strangers, a terminally ill woman has arrived home in Maryland from Alaska, where she was stuck in a hospital after suffering a respiratory crisis on a cruise ship. BUXTON, N.C. (AP) — Two islands along North Carolina's Outer Banks are completely without power, and authorities are advising residents and tourists to prepare for an extended outage. Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative officials say the breaker at Oregon Inlet was tripped about 4:30 a.m. Thursday, causing the outage for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands.

Van Beurden welcomed recent proposals to phase out passenger vehicles powered by fossil fuels in Britain and France, saying they are needed to combat global warming. Authorities are holding out hope that a missing 68-year-old man is alive after a suspect who ran from law officers for six days was found driving the missing man's truck in western North Carolina.
