In an annual survey of car owners, significant numbers reported what the magazine considered to be excessive oil consumption. Consumer Reports focused on 2010 to 2014 models and called on automakers to make repairs under the powertrain warranty or to extend warranties. The magazine's survey didn't find any link between oil consumption and other engine problems, but it found that cars that burn oil early consume more as they age. Under the agency's new rail partnership, Amtrak will serve as primary operator and Iowa Pacific will provide the equipment, maintenance, on-board services and marketing. Federal Railroad Administration and Amtrak officials had to conduct a fourth inspection before they cleared the Iowa Pacific rail cars to carry passengers. (AP) — There was internal damage to the engine of a small plane that crashed into a home and burned over the weekend, killing three people onboard, a federal safety investigator said. National Transportation Safety Board investigator Doug Brazy said Tuesday that investigators found a hole in the engine's crankcase but don't know the cause. The pilot had told air traffic control his engine was failing just before the crash in a Plainville neighborhood on Sunday evening.
