President Donald Trump made a surprise, unannounced trip on Wednesday to honor the return of slain US Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer William (Ryan) Owens.

Owens died during a raid on Al Qaeda in Yemen, along with about 30 civilians and 14 members of Al Qaeda. Three other Navy SEALs were wounded in the raid, and a $70 million MV-22 Osprey belonging to a Marine quick-reaction rescue force had to be destroyed.

A Dallas jury has ordered Facebook to pay $500 million in damages for a lawsuit that claims its Oculus VR subsidiary was based on stolen tech.

The money will go to game maker ZeniMax, who filed the lawsuit against Oculus in 2014 and led Facebook executives like Mark Zuckerberg to testify in a public trial last month.

Facebook reported a blockbuster fourth quarter on Wednesday, as mobile ads drove a 50% jump in revenue that far outpaced the company's spending, and as the social network moved closer to amassing an unprecedented audience of two billion monthly users.

Facebook managed to beat growth targets across the board despite concern that it's running out of room to place ads in the News Feed.

As the sports world continues to grow more vocal about Donald Trump and his early actions as president, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday avoided the subject altogether.

Speaking to the media from Houston ahead of Super Bowl 51, Goodell was asked about Trump's immigration ban from seven majority-Muslim countries. He chose to stick to football.

President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Department of Education, Betsy DeVos, on Wednesday became in danger of being voted down in her upcoming Senate confirmation.

The forecast became gloomy after Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — a pair of moderates — announced their opposition during separate speeches on the Senate floor.

People seem to be easing up on their ammunition buying after the presidential election.

John Fischer, CEO of Winchester-maker Olin Corporation, said that gun retailers are seeing slower than expected sales of bullets and ammunition post-election.

"Winchester did experience a slowdown in commercial ammunition demand after the presidential election which we expect to continue into 2017," said Fischer in his company's earnings call on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) — The U.S. Senate confirmed Rex Tillerson as President Donald Trump's secretary of state on Wednesday, filling a key spot on the Republican's national security team despite concerns about the former Exxon Mobil Corp chief executive's ties to Russia.

As voting continued, 53 senators had backed Tillerson, and 42 had voted no. The vote was largely along party lines, with every Republican favoring Tillerson and nearly every Democrat opposed.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety decided to put four all-electric and hybrid electric vehicles to the test for safety. 

Compared with the 2017 Prius Prime and the 2017 Chevy Volt, the BMW i3 and the Tesla Model S weren't just safe enough to merit a "Top Pick +" by the IIHS.

The US dollar index is little changed for the day at 99.62 as of 2:52 p.m. ET.

It reached as high as 100.01 earlier on Wednesday.
