IBM released a better-than-expected Q2 earnings report on Monday. And with it, CEO Ginni Rometty sent an uplifting email to the troops about how IBM is doing in turning around its workforce.

In it Rometty announced several surprising statistics, including that IBM has already grown its headcount by a whopping 30,000 people in its fiscal first half.

Much of that was through hiring though some of that was through acquisitions. IBM has closed 10 acquisitions in 2016.

Chaos briefly engulfed the floor of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland on Monday as "Never Trump" delegates from multiple states urged for a roll-call vote on a measure that would have unbound delegates.

Delegates opposed to Donald Trump erupted in anger after the chair of the convention found "insufficient support" for a vote that would allow Republican delegates to become "unbound," which would permit them to vote against Trump.

CLEVELAND — Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, a veteran of the Iraq War who was once thought to be on Donald Trump's shortlist for vice president, told reporters on Monday that she's confident that the presumptive Republican presidential nominee would make a good commander in chief.

Foreign-policy experts — some from within the Republican Party — have been critical of Trump's positions and said that he would not be a suitable commander in chief.

R-rated films limit their audiences based on excessive violence, sexual situations, drug use, and language, as determined by the MPAA.

"Deadpool" had the biggest R-rated opening weekend with $132.43 million, but when looking at total grosses of R-rated films adjusted for inflation, the breakout Marvel movie doesn't make the top 10. (In fact, it sits at No. 17.)

Revenues of $20.24 billion versus estimates $20.03 billion. That's a beat, too.

BERLIN (Reuters) - Turkey cannot join the European Union if it reinstates the death penalty, German Chancellor Angela Merkel told Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in a telephone call on Monday, a German spokeswoman said.

Turkey abolished capital punishment in 2004, allowing it to open EU accession talks the following year, but the negotiations have made scant progress since then.
