A group of former presidents has held secret meetings in the Dominican Republic with Venezuelan officials and government opponents in an attempt to mediate the South American nation's political standoff, an opposition leader confirmed Saturday.

Jesus Torrealba, executive secretary of MUD, the opposition alliance, confirmed that the meetings, which were initiated under the auspices of the Union of South American Nations, or UNASUR, took place.

New Orleans Pelicans guard Bryce Dejean-Jones has died after being shot in the abdomen, his agent confirmed to ESPN.

According to Sarah Mervosh of The Dallas Morning News, Dallas Police say Dejean-Jones was killed when he "kicked open the front door" of an apartment and was shot by a resident who had been sleeping inside.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The pilot of a World War Two-era plane killed in a crash in the Hudson River off Manhattan on Friday evening was trying to execute an emergency landing, the museum that owned the vintage aircraft said.

The P-47 Thunderbolt crashed just south of the George Washington Bridge. The New York Police Department identified a body recovered from the plane as that of William Gordon, 56, of Key West, Florida. Police would not comment on a cause of death. Читать дальше...

Nasdaq has rejected an application by MassRoots, a social network for cannabis users, to list shares on its exchange.

MassRoots said in a press release Tuesday that Nasdaq thought it was helping to sell an illegal substance. Medical marijuana is illegal under federal law but allowed in 23 states.

MassRoots plans to formally appeal, and it has started a public campaign to get more people to protest the electronic exchange.

Reddit is launching a new way to make money.

Starting on June 3, the site is going to use a popular strategy called affiliate linking to get a small cut of purchases that happen after a person clicks through to an online store from Reddit.

For example, if you click a link to a glitter phone case on Reddit and then buy that phone case, Reddit will make some money.

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station on Saturday slowly inflated an experimental fabric module that may provide a less expensive and safer option for housing crews during long stays in space, a NASA TV broadcast showed.

An initial attempt to unfurl the module on Thursday failed, most likely because of friction within the module's layers of fabric, foam and reinforced outer covering, NASA said.

Eleven people were struck by a bolt of lightning in a park in Paris on Saturday and six of them were seriously hurt, the French interior ministry said.

Eight of the injured were children, the ministry said in a statement. The incident occurred in the Monceau park in a north-western district of the French capital.
