Armenian government to toughen standards on gambling advertising
A set of amendments to the laws on advertising and gambling, approved today by Armenian government, provide for tougher restrictions on gambling advertising on television and radio.
According to Minister of Finance Atom Janjughazyan, the proposed changes call for limiting the gambling advertising and determining its period and duration on TV channels and radio. He said a gambling advertisement should obligatorily note that it is meant for citizens over 21 years old; also advertisement of gambling will be restricted for non-residents. The proposed changes also set a penalty for violation of the law in the amount of 1 million drams ($2,067).
According to the minister, the changes propose that card games, which are viewed now as a kind of gambling, be included in the list of sports games, such as billiards, tennis and backgammon.
Under the proposed changes advertisement of gambling on television and radio is allowed between 22:00 and 06:00. During this period, the total duration of advertising, including advertising and promotional information, can not exceed 4 minutes.
