Local Soccer Roundup: Former MCAL star O’Sullivan enters USF Hall of Fame
Former Drake High soccer standout Fiona O’Sullivan was one of six athletes named Saturday in the 2026 class for induction into the USF Athletics Hall of Fame.
O’Sullivan, was one of the most prolific goal scorers in MCAL history during her playing days at Drake from 2001-04. O’Sullivan led the Pirates in scoring three times, led the MCAL in scoring twice, and was a four-time all-league first team selection.
O’Sullivan scored eight goals during her time at USF, including a team-high five in 2006. O’Sullivan would later come back and coach the program after a professional career that saw her play all over Europe.
O’Sullivan, whose father was born in Ireland, was also a member of the Irish women’s national team between 2009 and 2016. Six of her 13 career goals for Ireland came in the qualifying games for the 2011 Women’s World Cup, including a hat trick against Israel on Aug. 25, 2010.
O’Sullivan is currently the soccer director at San Domenico and coaches the girls program.
The USF Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for Jan. 18 at the McLaren Conference Center on the main campus of USF.
Girls soccer
Allie Marovich scored her second goal of the game in the 79th minute to lift Terra Linda to a 2-1 victory against San Domenico on Saturday. Marovich scored in the fourth minute, assisted by Nina Iyer, then Sienna Economou provided the assist on the winner for TL (3-1-1).
- Tatum D’Angelica scored four times to lead San Marin to a 4-1 victory against El Camno on Saturday. Emily McCoy, Natalie Banton, Katie Maxwell, and Kailee Akamine provided assists fro the Mustangs (3-0-1).
- San Rafael picked up a 3-1 win against Woodbridge in the morning then tied tournament host Costa Mesa 2-2 in the afternoon on Saturday. Ryder Higgins Jones, Janelle Tarca, and Jaela Brown scored against Woodbridge, with Brown and Darby Fones providing assists. Brown added another goal and an assist against Costa Mesa. Stefani Brandt scored the other goal for the Bulldogs (5-0-2).
- Lauren Willard scored on an assist from Allegra Andreoli as Tam (0-3-0) fell to Windsor 2-1 on Saturday.
- Zoe Clark scored on an assist from Iris Hawks as Redwood (0-0-2) settled for a 1-1 tie against Albany on Saturday.
- Kara Kandakulum scored a late equalizer for Branson (4-1-0) but Ukiah responded immediately by scoring after the ensuing kickoff to beat the Bulls 2-1 on Saturday.
- Marin Catholic’s game against Pinole Valley on Saturday was postponed due to a teachers’ strike in Pinole’s school district.
Boys soccer
Rhys Jones scored twice, bringing his tally for the week to three, as Marin Catholic secured a 2-1 victory against Stuart Hall on Friday. Carter Matza had nie saves in goal for MC (2-0-0).
- Alex Jones scored around the 70th minute to help San Marin to a 1-1 tie against Piner on Friday night. San Marin (0-2-1) trailed for most of the game but tied the game late when Alex Santoyo provided the assists on Jones’ goal.
- San Rafael (2-1-1) conceded a pair of late goals in a 3-0 loss to Jesuit at the Whitney tournament on Saturday.
- Cooper Little converted on a penalty kick in the 60th minute as Branson (1-0-1) secured a 1-1 tie against Sonoma Valley on Friday night.
- Terra Linda (0-2-0) traveled to Santa Rosa on Friday, falling 2-0 to Montgomery.
