The #34 Conquest Racing/Corsa Horizon Ferrari 488 GT3 of Manny Franco and Alessandro Balzan followed up setting the fourth-fastest time in Practice 1 earlier today, with the fastest time overall in Practice 2.
Balzan set a 2’00.509 in the first minutes of the session to set the pace. As a cloud cover rolled in over Sebring Raceway and surface temperatures cooled off, Balzan improved to a 2’00.030 halfway into the session to ensure the top time in Practice 2.
Early on, the #13 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari (Justin Wetherill/Ryan Dalziel) was making up a Ferrari 1-2, but the #96 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 (Michael Dinan/Robby Foley) would jump up into second place as Foley set a time of 2’00.524, just a few hundredths better than Dalziel’s best time of 2’00.570, which was third-fastest.
The #3 K-PAX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 (Misha Goikhberg/Jordan Pepper) ended the session in fourth. Pepper heads into the weekend double-header 47 points behind Andrea Caldarelli in the #1 K-PAX Lamborghini. Caldarelli and Michele Beretta ended the session ninth, despite Beretta taking a brief off-track excursion into the grass at Le Mans Corner (turn 16) late in the session.
The #63 Usalco/DXDT Racing AMG GT3 (David Askew/Dirk Müller) was fifth, followed by the #93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 (Ashton Harrison/Mario Farnbacher).
There were, however, tense scenes for the red Racers Edge Acura as the chequered flag fell, when Harrison appeared to lose drive in the Big Bend between turns six and seven.
However, we were able to confirm that the #93 Acura did not suffer a catastrophic failure as it was quickly brought back to the garage for a change of brake rotors and setup.
In seventh place was the #45 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3-R (Charlie Luck/Jan Heylen), the Pro-Am Championship leaders, followed by the #91 TR3 Racing Lamborghini (Jeff Burton/Corey Lewis), the #1 K-PAX Lamborghini, and the #08 Qelo Capital/DXDT AMG GT3 (Scott Smithson/Bryan Sellers), which hit the tyre barriers after Smithson spun out in turn 15, but suffered no major damages.
Another top Pro-Am contender, the #04 CrowdStrike/Riley Motorsports AMG GT3 (George Kurtz/Colin Braun), was 11th.
