Why Call Of Duty: Warzone's Gulag Change Is A Great Idea
Call of Duty: Warzone's Pacific update will bring long-awaited changes to the battle royale's gulag system, enabling players to retain their guns.
Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.
Call of Duty: Warzone's announced gulag changes are a great addition to the December update. For some time now, Warzone players have asked for a better gulag system, and now they're getting it. Warzone's new Pacific Caldera map has already been met with praise by some fans, and this new gulag system also deserves a similarly positive response.
The Season 1 Pacific update brings with it a much-wanted gulag change. Since Warzone's release in 2020, players who went to the gulag during a match had to scrap their way to a victory. They'd then drop back onto the main map with only a pistol to defend themselves. However, that's no longer the case with the Pacific update, because players get more than a mere pistol for surviving. After winning the gulag in Warzone's Pacific map, the player's guns used in the fight can be brought with them.
Many of Warzone's fans have wanted changes to the gulag system for a while, which is why the Pacific update is so great. Players finally get a fairer chance once they make it back in-game, and the changes are especially crucial for those who win a gulag scrap late in the match. Thanks to a previous update in September, the new change has already gone through a testing phase and so is ready to be implemented.
On September 23, Infinity Ward and Raven Software brought Iron Trials '84 in as a beta test for the new gun rule. Warzone's gulag system was in need of improvement for a while, with many players having complained about how difficult it was to survive after breaking out. And really, it's not fair to win a deathmatch just to be sent back with no resources. A trip to the gulag early doesn't affect players much, as usually they can land somewhere else and start over, but it's not the same late in the game. Players who win a scrap late on will have a fairer chance to last longer and claim a battle royale victory if they play their cards right.
Now that gun changes are coming to the gulag in December, Warzone matches will become more competitive and balanced. The communication between the fans and the game's developers, Infinity Ward and Raven Software, has been a real positive leading up to this update, with the alterations to the gulag system having been spurred on by those discussions. Hopefully, this trend will persist, and ensure that Call of Duty: Warzone continues to receive quality-of-life improvements with future iterations.
