Spider-Man 3: Zendaya Won't Deny Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield Rumor
Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 star Zendaya says she can't confirm nor deny that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will appear in the MCU movie.
Zendaya recently weighed in on the rumors Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will appear alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming 3. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film is already one of 2021's most anticipated. In addition to reuniting audiences with Peter Parker, M.J., Ned, and others, it will feature Jamie Foxx's Electro, who last appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange will also be a part of Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, likely in a mentor capacity. The inclusion of both Electro and Doctor Strange has led many to assume the movie will tackle the Spider-Verse, leading to appearances by Garfield and Maguire, though that hasn't been confirmed.
Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 was supposed to begin filming over the summer. However, production was postponed due to the pandemic. Shooting began in New York in October before moving to Atlanta soon after. No spoilers have come out as a result of the filming start. However, some videos and photos have made their way online. Last month, Holland shared an image of himself in a face mask and his Spider-Man: Far From Home costume. Meanwhile, a set video showed Spider-Man and possibly M.J. participating in a high-flying stunt.
The week, Zendaya appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and spoke about Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, though she couldn't reveal any details. She explained, "Everything is very secretive." Kimmel even asked if the movie's title is an indicator of its number of Spider-Man characters, but Zendaya said, "I can neither confirm nor deny." Kimmel playfully tried a couple more times to ask the actor about multiple Spider-Men appearing, but Zendaya refused to say for sure, stating "Yeah — I can't say that. You almost... that was good. That was good."
Zendaya's response isn't surprising, considering the rigorous media training members of the Marvel family undergo. Actors are told early on not to reveal any kind of spoilers. In fact, Holland, as well as his MCU co-star Mark Ruffalo, have become known for accidentally sharing details they're supposed to keep secret. Appearances by Maguire and Garfield would be a huge deal for Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, so it makes sense Marvel wants to keep it under wraps for as long as possible.
However, if the two actors do show up in the movie, it seems unlikely it will remain a secret until Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 releases. In this day and age, major appearances like that rarely stay a complete surprise, as keen fans know to keep an eye out for actors arriving at nearby airports or hotels. For this reason, Marvel may decide to release the news on its own, as a way to increase anticipation for Spider-Man: Homecoming 3.
