Will Animal Crossing Have A Thanksgiving Event? | Screen Rant
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting a Thanksgiving event soon, and players can expect to see a new NPC, furniture, and more for Harvest Day.
Will Animal Crossing: New Horizons have a Thanksgiving event? The short answer is: yes! Not a lot of information has been released regarding what to expect, but from what is known from previous Animal Crossing games, islanders can make a good guess as to what the event will entail.
Seasonal changes and holidays are always exciting in the Animal Crossing franchise. They typically introduce new visiting Villager characters, DIYs, and furniture, so players can certainly bet on seeing some Thanksgiving-themed content in the near future.
The Animal Crossing: New Horizons update trailer that came out in September introduced the Halloween event and teased another late-November update featuring two NPCs that have yet to appear in New Horizons. However, these are not new to the series. Longtime fans will know them as Franklin the turkey and Jingle the reindeer, who appear in November and December, respectively. The events they have previously been associated with are the Harvest Festival and Toy Day.
Franklin the turkey, who appears in Animal Crossing: New Leaf wearing an ironic chef's hat and apron, made his first appearance in the original Game Cube Animal Crossing game. He shows up every Harvest Day in most Animal Crossing titles. He was first seen as a very skittish and paranoid character - rightfully so - as he morbidly received an invite to be a special guest for Harvest Day, except "guest" was written over the half-erased word, "dish." In the early games, he would hide behind buildings and trees in fear that the player would eat him. His role became more refined in New Leaf, where he appears in the Plaza and tells the player he'll be cooking for the Harvest Festival. As pumpkins recently came to New Horizons, there may be more farmable vegetables coming in preparation for the Harvest Festival.
Franklin has the player acquire different ingredients which can be obtained from fishing, harvesting, or from other villagers on a player's island. This is likely the formula New Horizons will follow, but it will probably have its own spin on the event, as seen with previous holidays and festivals. The Harvest Festival occurs on the fourth Thursday in November, just like Thanksgiving. In New Leaf, Franklin had the player find ingredients for four courses: a salad, a soup, the main dish, and dessert. After giving him the ingredients, he would reward the player with Harvest furniture. An Animal Crossing datamine earlier this year hinted at cooking coming to New Horizons, and this seems like the perfect time to implement it.
In addition to the Harvest Festival, players can also look forward to Jingle the reindeer and Toy Day coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in December. A New Year's event is likely to follow soon after, too.
