KOIN’s Cart of the Week: FOMO Chicken

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — FOMO Chicken is KOIN’s Cart of the Week.
Located in Southeast Portland in a pod casually known as Pod 28, the cart specializes in Korean Fried Chicken.
Owner Sun Kim emigrated from South Korea and was raised in Atlanta. He moved to Portland to work in restaurants and was inspired to bring his heritage together by combining the flavors of Korea and the South.
“Korean Fried Chicken was my favorite food growing up, before we emigrated to the United States, and once we got here there was no Korean Fried Chicken and I really missed it a lot, and I felt like I was missing out. And that’s how we got the name FOMO, FOMO means fear of missing out,” Kim said.
With only three main items on the menu, FOMO Chicken keeps it simple.
“It’s fried two times, and it’s fried twice to make it extra crunchy so it’s really crunchy and it’s really spiceful, not really spicy,” he said.
Kim enjoys the food cart lifestyle and doesn’t have any immediate plans to expand or move to brick and mortar. He said he is focusing on his catering business and more options for take out and delivery.
