Gardnerville man pleads guilty to manslaughter in killing
GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) — A 59-year-old Gardnerville man has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter with a deadly weapon in the 2015 fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend's grandson.
The Record-Courier reports John Edgar Stalcup entered the plea in Douglas County District Court Wednesday in the death of 19-year-old Ian Toepfer.
It was part of a plea deal in which prosecutors agreed not to seek more than five years for the deadly weapon enhancement.
Stalcup also faces up to 10 years in prison for the manslaughter charge at his Oct. 11 sentencing.
Prosecutors say the shooting occurred after a fight in which Toepfer hit Stalcup in the face, breaking bones in his nose and eye.
